Early Years

Nick along with his brother and sister grew up in the rough area of New York City known as Hell’s Kitchen. Jack Fury was a pilot during World War I and was shot down and killed in the closing battles of the war. This left Nick, Jake and Dawn to be raised by Jack’s second wife, Nick’s stepmother.

Jake and Nick spent most of their time on the rough streets of Hell’s Kitchen were they would get into fights and where Nick would meet Red Hargrove. Red and Nick became fast friends and it would be Red who would eventually go with Nick to England where the two of them would join Finley’s Flying Circus.

Nick kept out of trouble, for the most part, by fighting in the boxing ring. Nick also joined the Police Athletic League where he would learn to shoot and would eventually become an excellent marksman.

Nick and Red traveled to England together in 1940 where they performed aerial stunts for the flying circus. Red would fly the plane while Nick would perform stunts out on the wings. This impressed British officials and they hired Fury and Hargrove to train British paratroopers. Fury and Hargrove caught the attention of Lt “Happy Sam” Sawyer. Sawyer recruited the two of them for a special mission in Holland, where Nick would meet Timothy “Dum Dum” Dugan.

The War Years (1941 - 1945)

Nick and Hargrove enlisted in the U.S. Army and were both stationed in Pearl Harbor on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. Shortly after Red’s death in the Pearl Harbor attack, Nick joined the U.S. Army Rangers, where he met up with Captain Sawyer. Sawyer gave Nick command of the First Attack Squad, which would be better known as the Howling Commandos. Nick and the Howlers would fight on every front and go up against the likes of Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, who would be one of Nick’s most deadly and persistent enemies. Nick and the Howlers would also go up against enemies like Baron Zemo, the Red Skull and other villains. They would also fight along side heroes such as Captain America and Captain Savage. Nick would also meet a Canadian soldier Sgt. Logan and the two would continue to have contact through the decades.

It was during his time in England when Nick met the first love of his life, Lady Pamela Hawley. Nick and Dugan went on a mission where they rescued her from Viscount Krowler, unknowingly intervening in a time transcending clash between the demonic Dormammu and Dr. Stephen Strange. Their memories of the event were erased. Nick and Pamela’s relationship was serious enough for Nick to purchase an engagement ring. However, Pamela was killed in an air raid attack while Nick was away on a mission. He learned of her death when he returned and was heartbroken.

During a mission in France near the end of the war, Nick was severely injured and found himself in the care of Professor Berthold Sternberg. Sternberg did some experimenting and injected Nick with a serum called the Infinity Formula. The serum would grant Nick a long life, keeping him in the prime of life long past those of his friends and even enemies.

Nick returned home in 1943 for a visit. His brother Jake was captured by Colonel Klaue. Nick freed Jake, but in return was captured. The Howlers, along with Jake, rescued Nick, and the event spurred Jake to join the Army. This was a mistake on Jake’s part and he grew to resent his decision and Nick.

The OSS and CIA Years (1946 – 1963)

Nick and the Howlers cleaned up around Europe after most soldiers went home. Nick was reassigned to Okinawa Japan and was recruited by the OSS (Office of Strategic Services).

In 1946 Nick aged sixty years in the span of a few minutes due to effects of the Infinity Formula. Sterberg anticipated this and mailed Nick a mutate version of the formula. Nick’s youth was restored, but the effects would only last a year. Sternberg started extorting money from Nick for more doses of the Infinity Formula. This continued for several decades.

In 1947 the OSS disbanded and Nick once again saw battlefield action, this time in Korea. The Howlers reformed and afterwards, Nick received a promotion to second lieutenant. Nick then went on to work for the Central Intelligence Agency.

Nick led Team Valkyrie for the CIA until the war’s end in 1953. Nick would work for the CIA during the sixties until the Howlers re-formed in 1967 for a mission in the Vietnam War. A year later Nick trained as a Green Beret Special Forces and would train as a Black Beret in 1973. During these years he would occasionally work with Canadian Intelligence officer, Logan.

It was during this time when Nick met Amber D’Alexis while undercover in Macao. Nick romanced her to get the information he needed to arrest her. At the time, Amber was romantically involved with his brother Jake. This helped drive the wedge father between Nick and Jake.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Career (1963 – late 1970s)

Nick was tapped to head the new Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division (S.H.I.E.L.D) in 1963. Nick met playboy Tony Stark and thanks to him he got the directorship of S.H.I.E.L.D. and advanced technology from Stark Enterprises.

Nick brought in fellow Howlers Gabe Jones and Dum Dum Dugan to help him run S.H.I.E.L.D. Along with Academy graduates, Valentina De Fontaine and Jasper Sitwell, Nick and S.H.I.E.L.D. would go on to battle HYDRA, A.I.M., Yellow Claw, and the Zodiac headed by Nick’s own brother Jake.

Nick would lead SHIELD through the 60s and into the 70s until the end of the mutant-human war. Magneto rose to power and Nick led SHIELD against him. Nick and SHIELD failed. Wanted for crimes against mutantkind, Fury went into hiding. With his background Fury was easily able to dodge and avoid the mutants chasing him.

Current status

His current whereabouts are unknown, but there are rumors about him leading the human resistance movement.
